You can buy tickets on the street. There are usually discounts available. HOHO is great for an overview of NYC--ie. get on the bus and do a complete rout. It sis NOT good to use as basic transportation.
Agree with rdglady..great way to spend part of the first day for first timers to a big city like NYC ..especially after that long flight...hope all goes well and you have a great holiday
Do the HOHO when you first arrive as it gives you good bearings of the city and you will pass by so much and then you can work out where you want to go back to for more time
We did It on our first afternoon . Don't do it towards the end of the stay that wouldn't serve your purpose
I've followed your reports you've been busy as expected but appears you are making the most of your trip
Not long till you return home to toast and vegemite , unless you are like us and travel with a tube !!
Just make sure you buy a MetroCard first just in case you are stuck somewhere. Early in the morning is actually the best time to enjoy a HOHO ride. Get on the Uptown by 8:30 and you will be at the Met around opening time (the open time is now 10 and not 9:30).
The link in the first comment was written by a tour guide friend who is still doing the buses. If you go on Grayline you might actually have a Nigerian King as one of your drivers (must look up a link to Laddy one of these days)
