NYC if you are somewhat flexible.

We have two free flights to New York. Our son is at school but boards so we are looking to have 4 nights in NYC and are looking at the best time to take advantage. We will be going for the sights, shopping and a few days away. We're in our 40's and want a good hotel.

When would you recommend we go and where would you stay.

I know it's rather open but at the moment we are bewildered at where to start, although I have been looking at this November.

Thanks for any help.

Depends on your budget as November will be expensive. Winter is a really busy time for New York due to people wanting to see all the Christmassy things!

Thanks, would like to get good value as the trip is free apart from hotel etc, so am happy if it costs but would rather get the most for my money!

Is there another time of year you would suggest that it not school holidays in UK, thus leaving us free to go.

You might be a bit more specific about the times you can't travel (for school holidays which we will not have a clue about.) and whether you are willing to travel in the dead of winter, etc.

Some dates in November are pricey (for various reasons) but others are fairly reasonable by NYC standards. The Christmas tourism rush doesn't affect November hotel pricing until after Thanksgiving, which is very late in the month this year (Nov 28). In fact, coming right around Thanksgiving week can be a very affordable time to come.

Rather then us assuming that you need or want to find the cheapest possible times for hotels, let us know what you are willing to spend per night. November might work just fine.
