March or November?

We were planning our first trip to New York in March next year so we could be there for St Patricks Day but now considering November (13th-21st) & hoping it may be Christmassy. Which is the best of the two months to visit? Would we be missing much if we were not there on St Patricks Day?

St Patrick's Day means many crowded streets and lots of drunk people in Times Square and falling out of Irish pubs. (The parade is not always on the 17th. Make sure you check the date, as i know people were disappointed by that this year.) IMO, it is not a reason to come to NYC, but many people disagree with that opinion.

Thanksgiving this year is on November 28. Most decorations are up by then, including store window decorations. The Rockefeller Center tree will be in place but not yet lit.

Check hotel rates for November and see if you can find something in your budget. It may be more expensive than March.
