driving from Long Island City to Battery Park Sunday am

What is the best way to drive from Long Island City to Battery Park early on a Sunday morning?

We are not from the NYC area.

Mapquest gives two options:

278 to Brooklyn Bridge, then up Broadway

278 to Williamsburg Bridge, then up Broadway

I think you should take Queensboro brg then hit FDR drive south, which will take you right to Battery park, w no traffic lights.

Agree with Vladchan and so does

Maps.google.com

It will be a more scenic and easier drive. What do you plan to do with the car once you get there??

Agree. BTW - If you took the Williamsburg or Brooklyn Bridges you'd then want to go down Broadway, not up Broadway.

This would also be an easy trip on the subway. As one example, take the R from Queens Plaza to Whitehall Street and you'll be right there. There are many other options, though. If you take the subway check for weekend route changes.

looking for a no toll way into Manhattan. It will be early Sunday morning so we were hoping to find a place to park on a side street for a few hours.

None of the routes you've been given have a toll. The Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg, and Queensboro (aka Ed Koch) Bridges are all free.

If you are concerned about paying tolls, be aware that the driving in on a Sunday is not the problem, it's finding parking. That can cost quite a bit. Browse here for garages, rates and coupons http://nyc.bestparking.com/

Street parking will be challenging. The subway alternative is easy.

no dogs allowed on the subway. We hope to find a place on the street and walk to see the WTC site.

I usually find parking around Barclay Street on Sundays. The earlier, the better.
