Cheapie shops

Whilst I don't want to buy a lot of tat, I always buy pens, fridge magnets, coasters, mobile phone case, mugs etc, things I can use and remember where I've been rather than things that collect dust!

Are there these kinds of shops in the city? Are they scattered around or is it best to head to one particular area? Are some better than others?

Sorry if it seems a daft question!

Thanks in advance,

You will see them everywhere around the major tourist sites - Empire State, Times Square, 9/11 Memorial, Macy's. They are not hard to find.

One note. Don't be afraid to haggle. I dropped my Kindle stylus & went into a camera store for a new one. They quoted a price which I thought was ridiculous & offered half of what the stylus was marked & they accepted (which only made me wonder how low would they have gone if I'd truly lowballed them.)

The City's own Transit Museum gift shops & its City Store offer a variety of merchandise at all price points & some of their wares are available only through them

The Transit Museum in Brooklyn is worth a visit, but most tourists will find the TM's gift shop at Grand Central to be the more convenient one; the City Store in the Municipal Building stocks more, and more variety, of goods than the one, geared to marrying couples, at the City Clerk's Office -- and the Municipal Building is right alongside the pedestrian walkway for the Brooklyn Bridge.

It is important to note that many of the same stores that sell this cheapie stuff also sell electronics. AND while they WILL haggle on that too it is because the products of our dubious origins. Do NOT Buy this type of item in Times Square stores.
