What time of day? Day of week? Age of children? Amount of luggage? Where on 3rd Avenue? Cheapest? Fastest? Most convenient?

I'd order a car service or take 2 taxis. You wont fit comfortably in one taxi.

Cramming two adults and three children in a taxi is not only uncomfortable, it is unsafe.

You can prearrange a larger vehicle like a GMC Yukon with enough seat belts for everybody. www.allstatelimo.com - +1 212 333 3333 You can also try Dial 7 and see whether you get a lower rate. www.dial7.com +1 212 777 7777

You could take two taxi's but that will be expensive.

Alternatively, if the children are old enough to help with the luggage and if they like trains, the JFK AirTrain is really fun and kind of cool - it is an elevated monorail with great views of the airplanes. It makes a very nice / easy connection with the commuter rail at Jamaica. You'd take the Long Island Rail Road right into New York Penn Station.
