Possible Spring Break Trip

One of the possibilities for a high school graduation trip for my daughter is a short trip to NYC. If she chooses this, we would probably come during spring break (mid-March) and spend 3-4 nights.

I know she would like to attend a Broadway show and visit tourist areas like Times Square, Statue of Liberty, take a city tour,...

Any advice on things for a family of 3 (dad, mom and daughter) would be appreciated.

She may decide on a trip south to the beach, so we are just exploring options at this point.

Have a look at the questions on the right hand side, especially the ones about must sees and dos and traveling with teenagers.

As for making actual suggestions this is very difficult without knowing what any of your interests are. Do you like museums; do you want to shop, would she want to take a Gossip Girl or movie tour?

Generally speaking, Central Park, Broadway, Statue of Liberty, the Top of the Rockefeller Centre, a museum, 5th Avenue, a walking tour/food walking tour and Century 21 would be the first things that come to mind. You may also want to treat her to something special such as an afternoon tea at somewhere like the Plaza Hotel, Bergdorf Goodman or the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

You won't run out of things to do, on a 4 day trip to NYC as opposed to sitting around a beach or swimming pool for the same amount of time. Depends on her interests, but obviously some great museums like The Met and Guggenheim. If she wakes up early, she may be able to catch a favorite act performing for one of the morning TV shows like Good Morning America. You could score tickets to the Fallon Show or Colbert Report. Central Park is always a great way to spend a few hours before grabbing dinner in Midtown. A walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and views from Pier One are great...

The weather in mid march is hit or miss. Could be nice, but will likely be chilly still. NYC will likely be much more expensive as well, unless you're planning a trip to Grand Cayman or somewhere like that.

Thanks for the ideas. We might put it off until Memorial Day week. We should have much better weather (and longer days) then.

When she makes up her mind about whether or not she wants to go to the beach (probably somewhere along the South Carolina coast), I may be coming back with more questions.

You might want to check availability for Broadway shows now. Wicked is popular with girls (& I know she'll grumble at that description) & it sells out regularly. I wouldn't want you to promise her to go to a specific show only to discover it's sold out.

Is budget a concern? Hotel prices fluctuate and your March dates will most likely be less expensive than Memorial Day week.
