First time in NYC

Hi, we're travelling to the USA for our honeymoon and will be in NYC on the 13th and 14th december (2 full days and nights) and from the 31st december-3rd january.

We love seeing new places, are foodaholics and love partying as well..oo and shopping :D

So would love some suggestions as to where all should we go, some must try out restaurants (fine dining and street food both)

Which clubs/bars should we go to?

And shopping?..not high end shopping. I've heard there are great sales post christmas, is that true?

And most importantly, where should we spend new year's eve? ..Everyone says times square..but is it really fun? We don't want a normal restaurant though..some nice party or bar, or even times square if it's actually worth it.

Thanks :)

P.S. We are 25 years old, travelling a couple of days after our wedding and first time in USA

For restaurant ideas, there are huge numbers of excellent choices and you haven't given us much to narrow it down. One of our frequent forum contributors is a blogging foodie and you can find lots of great suggestions there: eatingwithziggy.com

Read the forum a bit for lots of info on how difficult doing Times Square is. No, you do not want to do it. The most highly regarded paid venues in Times Square are already sold out. There are many others that are outright scams or nearly so. Doing it yourself is miserable, requiring spending many hours standing in the cold with no food, drink or bathroom, being herded into pens by NYPD.

There are lots of NYE parties all over the city. Sorry, I'm not an expert on them and it's hard to predict which ones you would enjoy anyway. You might start by thinking about how much you want to spend, what type of atmosphere and crowd you want, and whether you want guaranteed seating vs standing in a crowd.

Yes, stores will have after Christmas sales. Soho is a fun neighborhood with LOTS of shopping. You may also want to check out the big department stores (Macy's, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor) and discount stores (Century 21, TJ Maxx, Loehman's)

U r young n will enjoy manhattan, I like union square n there r many restaurants surrounding the square, lots of variety n worth a stop, then u can try Asian food on 32th st Korea town, little Italy n china town

New Year's Eve standing in time square will be cold, u have to bring ur food, adult diaper, thermal clothing, umbrella in case it snows, once u do it u will never do it again

Shopping is not my forte.

If you do not want to be in Times Square on NYE have a look at this thread:

For food, you will find street trucks all over the place, there are also aps you can get for your smart phone. Fine dining, Per Se, Eleven Madison Avenue, Daniel and Le Bernardin. You should also look at something like www.menupages.com where you can view the menus of many restaurants and narrow the selection by budget, location etc

"Which clubs/bars should we go to?" You will need to be way more specific for this. Are you bringing clubbing clothes? What sort of music do you like?

Shops are spread out all over NYC, with the high end ones being located mostly on 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue. There are no malls as such, unless you go to NJ or to Woodbury Common and in the time you are coming for, going to these would be a complete waste of time. Is there something specific you want to shop for? Clothes? Books? Shoes? If you can be more specific you will get better suggestions.

I really recommend that you do a little research so you can have a great time. Start with reading the top questions on the right hand side and then have a look at some NYC tourism websites. I found www.nycgo.com really helpful.
