Fitness/training

Will be in NYC in 2 weeks and will be looking to buy some exercise clothing/trainers mainly for running and fitness classes like circuit training etc. Where will be good places to look? Only sort of sports shop I'm aware of is Foot Locker but some things seem more for fashion than performance and Nike/Adidas stores seem to be very expensive.

If anyone can suggest some stores to look in that would be great, thanks!!

While not inexpensive LuLu Lemon is quite fashionable and has several stores around town. http://shop.lululemon.com/home.jsp

On the lower price end, Target also sells activewear, and has a couple of stores reachable by subway.

Modell's - multiple stores, more budget prices http://www.modells.com/

Paragon Sports http://www.paragonsports.com/

REI in Soho http://www.rei.com/stores/soho.html

Macy's may also be worth a visit, they have frequent sales. …macys.com/shop/…

I think the other department stores may have things as well.

Fitness centers, among them Equinox (www.equinox.com) as well as Soulcycle (https://www.soul-cycle.com) have sell their branded workout wear inside their gyms. Puma, Nike have stores all over the city.

For shoes, the personal service at NY Running Co. Is tops. They have several locations.

Here's an article fom ny magazine that lists 4 or 5 other places. They like Jack Rabbit.

For basic clothes, all of the discount stores like TJ Maxx, Century 21, Loehmanns have active sportwear with name brands at discount prices.

Remember that few people will know what you mean when you ask for trainers. They'll think you're referring to individuals who coach you on fitness.

My favorite on-line/catalog store, Athleta, also has a number of locations in the City. Check their website for specific locations. http://www.athleta.com/ Personally, I can't wait to visit myself next month!!
