draft itinerary - your thoughts and input would be awesome

We arrive in early June - fly in to LA from New Zealand, do a day tour of LA and then fly into NYC at 8am. (my 18 year old son, my sister and myself)

Day 1

Arrive JFK 8am - head to Yotel in Times Square - store bags.

Central Park

back to hotel to check in

Madame Tussauds

Day 2

9 hour comprehensive tour with NY Shuttles - lunch at Chelsea Market instead of the SOL Pedistal option

Top of the Rock for night lights

Day 3

Check out and store bags

Bronx Zoo

Back to collect bags and switch hotels to Off Soho Suites

Staten Island Ferry for night lights by sea

Day 4 (Saturday)

Slice of Brooklyn Pizza Tour - 3 hours

Walk 5th Avenue, window shopping, then to Macys, Nordstrom Rack etc for shopping

Little Italy or China town in the evening

Day 5

Highline and anything else we want to go to/go back to

Day 6 8.30am fly to San Francisco for 4 days

Have had to sacrifice a much yearned for tour of Walmart (don't laugh) and Woodbury Commons - but will do the Livermore Outlet Village in San Francisco instead.

Your thoughts?

No theatre or museum? Does your tour include going to statue of liberty without pedestal access? What about Ellis Island. I feel that is a much more important part of US (and NY) history than SOL which is more "Symbolic" of freedoms offered to immigrants.

Are zoos a big thing for you? With only 6 days here, I don't know that I'd spend one at the zoo. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent zoo, but there are zoos all over the world.

What is covered in the 9 hour highlights tour? There looks like there are some things "missing" from your itinerary, but maybe they're covered there. What about:

- Greenwich Village

- Metropolitan Museum of Art

- American Museum of Natural History

- Brooklyn Bridge

- Broadway show

I would choose the SOL Pedestal visit over Chelsea Market. Chelsea Market is not a market in the traditional sense, like Borough Market in London or the Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne. My opinion is that it's highly overrated, although I know many like it.

Are you switching hotels for financial reasons? If so, I get it. Otherwise I think it's a waste of precious time.

My $.02...I would really not do a 9hr tour in NYC....especially in the summer months...

I would also not switch hotels.....

Yes Zoos are important to my son. I thought the Brooklyn Bridge would be covered by the Brooklyn Tour. The comprehensive tour covers:

Start at: Times Square (51st and Broadway)

Saint Patrick's Cathedral

Grand Central Station

Little Italy Guided Tour

Statue of Liberty (Reserved ticket)

Statue of Liberty Monument/Pedestal

Lunch at: Food Network's Chelsea Market

(meal costs not included)

Wall Street (Guided Walk)

Federal Hall (Guided Walk)

Trinity Church (Guided Walk)

Wall Street Bull (Guided Walk)

Ticker Tape Parade Route (Guided Walk)

911 Memorial & Memorial Pools (Extra $2 Fee)

Empire State Building (Reserve Ticket Inc. - See More)

Ends at: Times Square (51st & Broadway)

They say we also see these from the shuttle:

Saint Patricks Cathedral

Madison Avenue

SEC Building

Met Life Building

Chrysler Building

Diamond District

NY Public Library

Marble Collegiate Church

Flatiron Building

Madison Square Park

Greenwich Village

NYU

Cast Iron District

SOHO

Ticker Tape Parade Route

Old Customs House

Elizabeth Ann Seton Memorial

Castle Clinton

Battery Park

Chelsea Piers

USS Intrepid Aircraft Carrier

Hells Kitchen

As terrible as it may sound Museums aren't a priority, we really don't have enough time but if we managed one it would be the Natural History.

I felt that if we didn't do the main things on the 9 hour tour we would get to do less - most of the things on the tour were things we wanted to do anyway. My son wanted to stay in the futuristic Yotel - but its really small, so I thought the best of both worlds would be to go to the other end of Manhatten and get a suite, we can walk to Little Italy and Chinatown from there I think, so if we had late nights or early starts we could include them.

I would not do that tour. The thing about the passes/tours are that they include things that are really not needed and they rush you from 1 place to another...

Ex....

-Little Italy guided tour? Little Italy is about 1 1/2 blocks now.

-Wall St Bull guided walk....There is really no walk IMO. You go to the bull and wait on line to take a pic.

-Ticker Tape Parade Route...once you are walking up/down lower Broadway, you are on the ticker tape parade route...

-Etc..

After seeing what the tour is about, I am confused by you comment " lunch at Chelsea Market instead of the SOL Pedistal option" Statue of Liberty is on an Island. How can you have lunch at Chelsea market instead of pedestal access? Does that mean you won't take the ferry to SoL at all?
