Spa's in NYC

Can anyone recommend a spa experience in NYC??

We are getting married in Central Park on 08-22-14 and were thinking we would like to go to a day spa the day before, something that offers spa packages for couples and possibly lunch?

We've never been to a spa before so thins would be a real treat, any suggestions would be really appreciated!!

Juvenex would be one of your best bets. But it would be best if you would give a budget.

Thanks Michele

Will go check it out.

We were thinking no more than about $900 as that is the typical price of couples spa days here, but if it was something really lovely we would consider it,

I've been to Spa Castle, see my review on their TA page. Awesome experience yes, quiet romantic day for couples not so much. Read up on it, but I don't think it's what you're looking for.

There are a few meanings of spa. One is a place where you go for an appointment to get a massage, facial, etc. Often there are other services, such as nails, hair, etc. You usually go for a specific time and have the service, perhaps relax a bit in a small area, then leave. These are called day spas, but they are really for a few hours during your service.

There are a few places like Spa Castle, which is not in Manhattan but rather Queens, that are like a full day experience, such as exist in Asia and Europe. Here you pay an admission fee, as use pools, hot tbs, saunas, etc. They have snack bars, perhaps restaurants, etc. You often can get a massage but the price is extra. These are also "day spas" but you do stay flew a longer time. They are much larger than the other sort of spa.

Another thing is that there are "levels" of spas in NYC. Hotel spas, such as Mandarin, Peninsula (BTW, closer to Central Park) are luxurious and expensive.

peninsula.com/New_York/…default.aspx

There are medium level, more free standing spas

Then there are all sorts of places, often pretty low end, that call themselves spas, but don't offer very much.

I must say, surprisingly NYC is not a big spa town, the way Las Vegas, Scottsdale, Santa Fe and other city are.

You need to think what kind of experience you want, what is your budget, etc. Let us know and perhaps you can get more ideas.

OP, you said "We were thinking no more than about $900 as that is the typical price of couples spa days here,"

Is that per person or for the two of you? What are the services you each require: facial, mani-pedi, waxing, massage, etc? You have to factor all that into your "package".

King Spa has been very popular lately. It is in NJ and they provide you with buses to its location.
