Transport from Penn St to Newark

Hi, we leave NY tomorrow and are planning on catching the Skytrain from Penn St, what I am not sure of is after travelling one stop on the Metro to Penn St do we then have to leave the platforms to get the other tickets? If so where do we get them from?

I know this might sound like a simple question but up to now on our Metro journeys we haven't seen any staff to ask questions.

Thanks

Nick

Once you arrive at Penn Station on the subway, you exit the subway area and walk up through the station to the New Jersey Transit area. There you locate either the ticket windows or the ticket vending machines, making sure to use the New Jersey Transit windows and machines, not Amtrak. Buy tickets for Newark Airport, not Newark Penn Station. They should cost $12.50 each. Board the next train that stops at the airport. When you get there , leave the train and follow the signs to the AirTrain. Your ticket gets you through those turnstiles, so hang on to it. Take the AirTrain to your terminal.

Note that there is no "SkyTrain", except in Vancouver, BC, Canada :^)

And that New Jersey Transit is just a plain old commuter train system, like the London Overground or First Great Western. And a stop on some of the New Jersey Transit lines happens to Newark AIrport (EWR).

The way to know which is next is: When you look at the sign in the middle over the information desk, look for the letters "EWR" on a line, If it's an Amtrak train, ignore it; if its a NJTransit train to Trenton or a NJTransit NJ Coast Line train, it usually says "EWR", That's the one you take.

Get off at the Airport station, and take the in-airport AirTrain to your terminal.

Hey Nick:-) You can take a look at www.njtransit.com/ for the train schedules.. takes barely half an hour to the airport.. figure another 10-15 min or so to get to your terminal via air train;-) Piece of cake.. Enjoy!
