Hotel Deals (June 2014)

Hey,

I'm travelling the states this year departing from New York on 23rd June 2014. However I've arranged to go out three days early on the 20th June and explore NYC on my own. However I've had no success at finding a decent hotel preferably next to major attractions (Times Square etc) for about $120 / night (+ taxes).

Do you guys have any suggestions? Also, is now a good time to book or should I want until closer the time? I am just worried prices are going to get higher.

Thanks in advance,

L

There is only one place I am aware of that hits your price point and it's basically in Times Square. AND it was voted to ten WORST hotel in the USA in 2011 (the Carter). The price point you are looking at is very very low for anything in Manhattan, you can certainly forget about Times Sq. Sorry.

It's quite easy to get around in Manhattan. Try to find a place within 4 blocks of a subway stop and you will be fine. To get the price down seriously consider Priceline. They do seem to vet their hotels very well. You might get lucky. Bid at 5 stars and low ball it at $100 and then work your way up to $120 lowering your star requirements as you go. Until you get to 2 stars. You really might get lucky.

You can stay at the Lexington for close to that money actually for your dates.

If you are fine with a small room, this is great hotel with a great location (close to Times Square).

you could also try bidding on priceline as was suggested above

I have sent you a private message with details on the Lexington though

If you are willing to share a bath, you could stay at Pod 51 for $145 or Hotel Newton for $156.

I agree, don't stay at the Carter. If you need more convincing, this well-produced video should dissuade you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgBE1L8_WUs

Hi,

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I managed to get a hotel on Wall Street for about $400 which I thought was a good price.
