A beer can be anywhere from $2.50(happy hour pricing at some places) on up.

Average is about $5.

Food...that really depends on what you are eating. Here is a link to the dinner menu at O'Reilly's on 35th Street as an example:

NYC is a huge city - and there are more than 20,000 places to get something to eat; if you would like a specific breakfast suggestion, do say where you are staying (street and cross-street) - as to prices then, you could look at Yelp to see if menus as posted.

As an example....you can got into a "Food Exchange" type diner/deli(these types of places are all over the city) and get 2 eggs/cheese/tomato/home fries and toast for under $7.

2 eggs/cheese/tomato on a toasted bagel is appr $4.75.

Coffee/tea/water/juice/etc is extra. You can eat in at some of these places or just take it to go.

depending on where you are staying, look out for coffee shops doing a 'breakfast package'. usually a sandwich and coffee or a pastry/muffin with coffee, these can be a good deal. one near us was doing egg on a roll and coffee for $3.95 [plus tax].

loving the screen name - my mother was a monkey-hanger. :-)
