A young lady travelling alone, is it safe?

Hi, I'm visiting NYC from 15-24 March to attend a 4 days conference in manhattan, is it ok to go for site seeing after I'm done with my sessions around 5 PM? Is it safe for a tourist young lady to go around all alone?

How's the weather expected to be?

Thank you in advance.

Regards

incredibly safe

weatherwise shouldn't be too bad either, but of course there's no telling what it will be like exactly

It's very safe. The sidewalks are crowded with pedestrians, including single young ladies.

It's too early to know what weather will be at the end of March. Weather is variable. Cold weather and even snow is possible, so be prepared.

If you're out & about on the 17th, you might want to avoid Irish bars/pubs, especially those near the route of the St. Patrick's Day parade (5th Avenue, from 44th to 79th Street).

The way this year is going, I'd expect snow. I'm starting to think it will never stop snowing...

It's pretty safe - I wouldn't let safety concerns stop you from exploring NYC!

Of course, exercise caution if staying out late at night, like any big city.

Where are you visiting from? St. Patrick's Day is very big here -- a big parade, lots of visitors, and lots of people drinking too much. As another poster said, stay away from Irish pubs/bars, where a lot of the drinking will be done. Actually, the whole weekend leading up to St. Patrick's, which is on Monday this year, should be filled with drinking. Some of these people can be obnoxious and offensive in their behavior, but it's not generally directed against other people in particular.

5pm is very early. You'll be fine. You'll find NYC to be much safer than what you're imagining.

Except for the purple people eaters. You need to watch out for the purple people eaters.

Seriously, every time I see this question it gets up my nose. What is this supposed to be, 1977?
