Since 57th St is two miles long, where exactly you're staying will make a big difference in terms of directions. Do you know where you're staying?

It is very easy to do.

You'll take the JFK AirTrain to Jamaica and you'll come into Manhattan from the Jamaica transportation center. There are staffed / uniformed people at Jamaica to help.

We need to know where on 57th Street you're going. Directions to East 57th Street near Bloomingdales will be a lot different than if you're near Carnegie Hall or if you're all the way west at the Holiday Inn.

Nonetheless, it is easy to do. It is fast and efficient. It is definitely the safest way to go.

"If that helps at all" - If you get into a taxi and say "57th Street," you could end up miles (and I do mean miles as in more than one mile) from your hotel. 57th Street is a street that runs for over two miles from the East River to the Hudson River. You are more than a half hour walk from the Holiday Inn which is also on 57th Street.

You are at Lexington Avenue and 57th Street.

The easiest thing to do is take the JFK AirTrain to Jamaica. Fare control is handled at Jamaica. There is a $5.00 JFK AirTrain exit fare. Uniformed people are there to help.

You'll exit, bear left following the clearly marked signs for the subways. Take the elevator down two levels. There is a staffed booth in the subway station - purchase your fare.

Take the Manhattan bound E train in the direction of World Trade Center.

First stop in Manhattan is Lexington Avenue (at 53rd Street). You'll be a very short walk up Lexington Avenue (in the opposite direction of vehicular traffic as it is a one-way street for cars).

If you're planning to purchase a 7-day unlimited ride MetroCard for $30. per person, you can start this at the subway station after you've exited the JFK AirTrain. The unlimited ride card won't cover the $5.00 JFK AirTrain exit fare but it will cover the subway ride to your hotel.

The new E trains are beautiful. They have digital displays showing all the upcoming stations.
