Rochester, NY to Yankee Stadium

Will be attending the NY Yankee evening games on Friday, June 27 and Saturday June 28th.

Any suggestions on the best area to book a reasonable hotel for Friday and Saturday so we can just park the car and find a taxi or public transportation to and from the games.

Thanks

It depends on your definition of "reasonable" and what you plan to do during the day. There are a few hotels now near the Stadium that are not terrible like the Days Inn Yankee Stadium, but that will put you 40 mins. away from midtown Manhattan by bus. The Newton Hotel is probably the best option in Manhattan but you'd have to pay for parking nearby. The Fitzpatrick Grand Central would also be a decent option and is not that much more for your dates than the Newton and a nicer hotel.

bestparking.com

will give you parking rates near both.

PS the cheapest rate I saw for the Fitzpatrick was on getaroom.com (connection from kayak.com)

Thank you NY Whiz. Would it be mass confusion getting back to the midtown Manhattan area on a Friday/Saturday evening after a game? Do the buses stop at a certain time/

Are there any hotels that you recommend near Yankee stadium? Please note that is for my husband and son and they do not have the same standards for a hotel as I do. To them, it is just a place to sleep!

You do not take taxi's or buses to / from Yankee Stadium.

The Stadium is located in a densely populated residential neighborhood served by the subway. There are extra #4 trains at the end of Yankees games in the late evening only because the trains running at a normal 12 minute frequency wouldn't be enough to handle the crowds. It is not mass chaos - they run plenty of trains and while you may not get a seat, you will have no difficulty with the train.

The area around the stadium is not a particularly desirable area to stay.

There is a Courtyard by Marriott Upper East Side - a ten minute walk to the #4 train at 86th Street.

Yankee Stadium is at 161st Street. The trains stop at 161st Street, 149th St, some trains stop at 138th St. (there's nothing there - it's a fairly desolate part of the South Bronx), all trains stop at Harlem-125th Street, Upper East Side 86th St, Bloomingdales 59th Street, and 42nd Street Grand Central - so it's only about 20 - 25 minutes between Yankee Stadium and Grand Central where nywhiz recommends.

maps.google.com

shows you directions if you type the trip (ie Fitzpatrick Grand Central to yankee stadium nyc) and then click the train icon at the upper left corner, second one in after the car. To be even more precise, pick the date and time.

Are you planning to visit Manhattan as part of this trip, or just go to the Yankees game? If it's only the Yankees game I'd stay in one of the hotels in the office parks in northern Yonkers -- there's a nice Hampton Inn and Residence Inn. Tarrytown would work as well

It's a short distance from the hotels in northern Yonkers to the nearest Metro North station on the Hudson Line. I believe the hotels will run a shuttle to the station. There are direct Metro North commuter trains to and from Yankee Stadium.
