Realistic first time itinerary?

Hi

We are a couple in our thirties, staying at the Chelsea Pines Inn for seven nights in the beginning of June. Our main interests are exploration of neighborhoods, famous landmarks, people watching and good food.

Please see our itinerary is below. I would highly appreciate some input on whether this is doable.

I have some trouble putting Saturday and Sunday together. We want to use these two days to see Tenement Museum, West Village, Greenwich Village, Chinatown, Soho as well as a food tour in Greenwich Village (this is booked) and go to the Big Apple Barbeque Party at Madison Square Park. Of these areas Chinatown has the lowest priority and West Village the highest. We first thought of starting at the Tenement Museum, then working our way towards Soho and West Village via Chinatown with a side trip to Madison Square Park. However, the tours at the Tenement start quite late, so now we are thinking of doing Chinatown first, then Tenement, then lunch at the barbeque block party and back to where we left off. Any suggestions on how to do this the best way?

Friday: Arrive at hotel around 3pm. Chelsea Market and The High Line.

Saturday:

Tour at Tenement Museum

Chinatown

Lunch at barbeque block party in Madison Square Park

Soho

Dinner at 8 pm.

Possibly EBS after dinner.

Sunday:

Food tour Greenwich Village at 12 am - 3 pm, walk around Greenwich/West Village and what we missed on Saturday before and after.

Monday:

9/11 Memorial and Museum

Woolworth Building (just outside)

Wall Street

Brooklyn Bridge Park

Brooklyn Heights

Walk over Brooklyn Bridge

Dinner at 9 pm

Tuesday:

Tom's Diner (just a look from outside)

Possibly ANMH too see dinosaurs only

Buy picnic lunch at Zabar's

The Dakota (from the outside)

Central Park

Jersey Boys at 7 pm

Times Square

Wednesday:

TOTR

NYPL

Grand Central Terminal

Walk around Midtown to look at famous buildings and visit some stores (Tiffany's, Macy's, FAO Schwarz ...)

Lunch at 2nd Ave Deli (or other deli)

Possibly aerial tram to Roosevelt Island, walk to the Freedom Park.

Thursday:

Open day so far.

Friday:

Half day free before we leave, we will leave this open for last minute shopping, or things we missed the other days.

Things we would like to do that are not included in the itinerary:

Either boat cruise or Staten Island Ferry to see SOL. Do we have time to do this on Monday before going to Brooklyn?

Upper East Side (walk around the area, not museums unless we suddenly feel like it).

Battery Park

Hudson River Park (minigolf)

I would try to venture further into Brooklyn(maybe that Thursday) and explore Carroll Gardens/Boerum Hill/Park Slope. Great area for people watching/bars/restaurants/etc.

I think the way you set up Saturday and Sunday is fine. Those neighborhoods aren't that far apart and you left lots of leeway. So while there's a little back and forth on Saturday, that's OK since it's not back and forth all over town. Besides, the subway from Chinatown to Madison Square isn't even 10 minutes long. Otherwise it looks nearly perfect. Stuff is grouped well and there's lots of spare room. I'm not sure that the SI Ferry can fit on Monday though. ter was describing the 9/11 Museum visit today and mentioned it took him about 3.5 hours. So that might be your whole morning. The neighborhoods ter mentions are excellent as well.

Thank you all for the responses.

ter1413, we are here June 6th to June 13th. Thanks for the tips about more areas in Brooklyn, any specific things we should see there?

shawnito15, I also read about the museum visit. I think we should go directly to Brooklyn after we have seen the museum and that area, and just take the ferry after we get back if we have time, and if not, we can do it on Thursday.

ztaks, I've included St John the Divine in my notes, and I see that the Hungarian Pastry Shop is close by too.

cyblume, I'll look into the Morgan Library & Museum.
