Eating in New York

We are staying at Comfort Inn, Manhattan in August before going on a cruise. It's on 35th Street. Would love to go to a restaurant/cafe with bar stools, booths etc with character. Any ideas? Or any ideas of places with atmosphere and of course not too expensive.

The good thing about restaurants in NYC is that, by law, they are required to post their menus outside of their doors. You could just take a stroll around your hotel & see if there is anything that suits you on the menu & then, if the place has windows, peak inside to see if it is someplace you'd like. I do that when I'm in town & don't have a specific restaurant in mind & have had good luck doing it.
