The age old question of lodging... so overwhelmed!

Hi all,

Myself, my husband, and another couple/friends are traveling to NYC in August. Right now we're planning for 2 to 3 days. Since this is the first time to NY for all four of us, we're likely doing some of the typical first time things - WTC Memorial, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Central Park, etc.

Budget is important to us but if it's between a dive hotel and a decent hotel, I'd rather pay $20-50 more a night for a decent one.

I feel as if location is key but trying to figure exactly where to stay is daunting!

We are planning this as a road trip from the midwest. That being said, we'll have a car. (We don't plan on driving while in the city but we either park and ride somehow or just park the car at the hotel the 2-3 days.)

Please help! I literally have 25 - 30 tabs open on my browser with different hotels and I'm at the point where I'm close to saying forget it and playing the booking roulette game. (Not wise.)

Can anyone help me?

Thank you!!

Ivan, that's incorrect. Most exhibits are closed. This is from its website:

"Ellis Island is open on a limited basis while repairs continue.

Ellis Island has reopened on a limited basis. Due to the nature of the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy, parts of the historic Main Building and museum remain closed at this time. The museum's artifacts remain in off-site storage."

It's not going to reopen on the 28th though... where are you seeing that? This is from last year.

VISITATION ALERT: Ellis Island is open to visitors while the National Park Service continues to make repairs after Hurricane Sandy. Although some areas are restricted, visitors can stop in the American Family Immigration History Center to research their family immigration records and explore the Great Hall, "

I don't know how much of it isn't available but the part about the reopening on Oct 28 must be from last year

Ugh. A heading of one of the Top Questions says it Ellis Island reopens 10/28 without giving the year. I'll fix it.

Back to the point though, OP you need to give us specific dates, your budget per night (and whether this includes tax) and any requirements you have such as one room with two beds, or separate rooms, kitchenette etc.

Prices fluctuate daily and without this information we cannot assist.
