traveling from Ohio, where should we park?

we are traveling from Ohio in 10 days and staying for 6 days, city traffic and the hubs does not equal a good combination! thinking of driving to NJ and taking a train into the city? Does anyone have experience with this? and where would the safest place be, we would be leaving beach bags in the van since we won't need them in the city if possible. I cannot bring up njtransit in my search engine??

Take a look at parking in Weehawken and getting to Manhattan by ferry: nywaterway.com/PortImperialWeehawkenTerminal…

Otherwise, look here for parking garages in Manhattan, Jersey City and Hoboken http://nyc.bestparking.com/

If JC or Hoboken, you can take the PATH train into Manhattan: http://www.panynj.gov/path/maps.html

I think there may be some New Jersey Transit train stations where you can park, but a NJ local will have to advise on ones that are suitable for leaving a car for several days. http://www.njtransit.com/

thanks Kaye_in_Astoria, does anyone from NJ have other suggestions? I was looking at parking in Hoboken but reading the reviews for the parking is not good, damaged vehicles, stolen items....another person suggested parking in Morristown and taking the train in??? seems kinda far out there looking at my map. Any other Midwesteners out there with suggestions?

Regardless of where you park I wouldn't leave anything visible in the car.

The New Jersey Transit train schedule website is:

www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.srv…

Consider Secaucus Junction parking, which is right off of the highways. It gets full on weekdays but if you arrive later in the afternoon you should be OK.

www.njtransit.com/tm/tm_servlet.srv…

Don't exclude the possibility that you'll be better off parking in Manhattan, particularly if you have things in the car that you need to bring to the hotel room. Look at:

http://nyc.bestparking.com/

Choose the time you want and the neighborhood, and icons will appear. Choose one in green for guaranteed rates.

The way to do this is to first drive to your hotel and drop off your party and your luggage, and then drive to the garage where you'll leave your car for the duration of your stay. Make sure the hotel knows that another member of your party needs to be able to check you in so they don't have to stand around in the lobby waiting for your return.
