Free Ferry to Staten Island

I read (here http://www.siferry.com) is every passanger needs to go out from the boat and then re-board on the next boat.

Is it allowed to stay on the island for an hour? And how close can I go to the Statue of Liberty from this Ferry?

Thanks for advise!

You cannot go to the Statue of Liberty from the Staten Island Ferry, but there is a reasonable view of the Statue from the ferry.

If you wish to go to Liberty Island you need to get tickets from the official ticket seller here: http://www.statuecruises.com/

if you want a boat that will take you closer to the statue, but without getting off on Liberty Island, try the Water Taxi: www.nywatertaxi.com/statue_of_liberty_cruises

The Staten Island Ferry is a commuter ferry, which is free of charge.

Certainly, you may stay on Staten Island as long as you wish, the ferry runs 24/7 but less frequently at night.

It is just that they make all passengers leave (for security reasons I think) and re-board for their return trip.

There are a few things to explore on Staten Island, if you have the time: http://www.visitstatenisland.com/

If you wanted to spend a little bit of time on Staten Island you could do a highlights tour, not many people stay to see the island so this is worth it.

Yes, we agree. One of our favorite museums is on Staten Island: Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art at 338 Lighthouse Avenue, Staten Island holds one of the premier collections of this type of art in the world, and for more information, see: http://www.tibetanmuseum.org
