Recommendations for restaurants in NYC at Thanksgiving!!

Hi,

We are travelling to NYC just before thanksgiving, staying for 5 nights. Hoping to catch the Parade (any recommendations for vantage points would be appreciated ;)) and have a nice thanks giving dinner. I know that quite a few restaurants will be closed, and those open will need advanced bookings, so any ideas?!

Many thanks!

When we are not cooking at home or eating at someone else's table, we like to go for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at Friend of The Farmer restaurant on Irving Place a few blocks south of Gramercy Park, the largest private park in the City. Comfort food at its best!

You will probably need reservations as this place is a community favorite. For contact information see:

Rock Center Cafe & Sea Grill on the skating rink at Rockefeller Center are my go to answers but we need to know budget, cuisine & possible what part of the city. The two restaurants above usually start taking reservations before the usual 30 days so start looking every month or so to see if they've opened up their reservation books.

Rock Center Cafe and its sister restaurant the Sea Grill are very popular with visitors since they are in such a festive location. Same goes for Bryant Park Cafe - Bryant Park also has an ice skating rink, and a holiday market.

As cyblume mentioned, Rock Center Cafe and the Sea Grill start taking reservations a few months in advance (though maybe not quite this early). But most restaurants (including Bryant Park Grill) only make reservations a month in advance, even for Thanksgiving. Use the OpenTable website; at the end of October it will have a special Thanksgiving link:

Here are some lists from last year with some great Thanksgiving restaurant recommendations:

Have a fantastic trip!

I have been going to NYC for the parade for about ten years now and find it one of the Best times to go to the city. Anywhere along the parade route will be fine for viewing the parade. As for dinner reservations or suggestions check out Menupages.com or Opentable.com to view menus types of cuisine and to make reservations. Many of the restaurants will have "special" menus that day, and it's a little early for them to have this info out yet. Wait until about a month before to see these "special" menus listed on the restaurants websites.

Enjoy.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal at the West Bank Café. It's one of my favorites for pre-theater meals and they had a fabulous menu option for Thanksgiving.

Be aware that for many Americans Thanksgiving Dinner is actually an afternoon meal, followed by a food coma and watching football on TV.

We had a very enjoyable Thanksgiving lunch at The Boathouse in Central Park. The food was very good and we had a table near the window overlooking the water. For some reason I was unable to book via open table but I contacted them directly via the Boathouse website and was able to get a table for 4 at around 2.30 pm. It was also nice being able to go for a walk in the park afterwards.
