walking from Verve Hotel in LIC to Queen's Plaza station

I've never been to NYC and am trying to familiarize myself with route from our hotel to the subway station I wish to go to. Can't tell from the map of streets the best way to walk to this station. Looks like large highway blocks path but maybe someone who has stayed here could assist. Thanks. How long is the walk to Queen's Plaza from Verve and how long to Queensboro Plaza station if you know.

Easy...

Queens Plaza - https://goo.gl/maps/t7msa

Queensboro Plaza - https://goo.gl/maps/d64tI

The road at Queens Plaza is fairly busy at all times, but you can enter both stations without crossing the street.

Queensboro is above ground and you will see a pedestrian bridge on the north side of the station were you will enter.

Queens Plaza is below ground and has an entry staircase on the west side of Northern Blvd at about 41st Ave.

You can also walk north a couple of blocks to the 39th Street station on the N/Q (also above ground)

It's super easy. Walk one block down 29th. bear left onto 41st Avenue and there's an entrance to the subway stop at 41st and 31st. The map makes it look a lot more intimidating than it actually is in real life. Using Google Street View gives you a better perspective.

Thanks so much. I'll try that street view. The subway map certainly is daunting to a first timer! Appreciate the help.

You'll get the hang of it. It is easy and it is safe. People will answer questions.

You can always change directions without going through fare control at all express stations (except 2). The only two express stations you can't change direction within the system are 86th Street / Lexington and one way out in Brooklyn you're unlikely to be anywhere near.

Trains don't go long distances without stopping. Say you're at Times Square and you want to go to Columbus Circle and oops, you've boarded an uptown Express and it is not stopping at 59th St / Columbus Circle. Panic sets in. The world is coming to an end. No. The train stops at 72nd Street (a couple minutes later) and you turn around and get on the downtown 1 local train to 59th Street. People are terrified of getting lost on the subway - like the next stop may be in Mexico or Venezuela or Japan. The next stop is almost always within less than five minutes and you switch directions - it is not like you're going to be late for a job interview - it's no big deal.

Read the "how to ride the subway" link at the right on this page, it's a really good orientation.
