moving from Boston to NYC

Hi Everyone,

The end of August we are moving our son who recently graduated from college from Boston to New York City. I know that it is a fairly short drive.... somewhere around 4-5 hours but we need to stay one night somewhere in between because we will have a day gap between when he can move into his new place. Is there any a place in between that would be fun, interesting, nice to stay for a day/night? Thanks in advance for the suggestions

Maybe Newport, Rhode Island or towns in Hudson Valley in NY - nice scenery and some American culture.

If you go to Newport they have a Ferry ($80usd Round trip) to Martha's Vineyard-

& you could stay out there for a day-

The thing that concerns me is going off sightseeing with a car crammed with all his possessions for all the world to see. One thing to have it parked outside the window of the diner where you're having lunch, another to have it completely out of sight while you are off doing other things.

Norwalk CT is right off of the Merritt (rt 15) which was always my preferred way to drive from Boston to NYC. South Norwalk (SoNo) is a nice little area with good restaurants, strolling with artsy shopping, etc.
