JFK Airport to Manhattan

Passing thru JFK in October and want to go to Manhattan for the day to check out the 9/11 Memorial before flight out that night. Staying near the airport, I thought I'd get the A train from Howard Beach to Broadway/Fulton street. However some posts recommend going via Jamaica Station and the E line rather than via Howard Beach. Anyone know which is the better choice?

The difference is frequency of trains and complexity.

Going to Fulton St, the A train from Howard Beach runs half as often as the E train from Jamaica. Going back that way, you have to know that only "Far Rockaway" or "Rockaway Park" A train (not "Lefferts Blvd" A trains) go to "Howard Beach".

Every E train (except four of them during rush hour) go to and from the "Sutpin Blvd/JFK" subway station (Jamaica on the Airtrain). The last stop of the E train in Manhattan is right at the 9/11 Memorial (the station is called "World Trade Center").

So E trains to/from Jamaica run every 3-8 minutes. And "A" trains to/from Howard Beach run every 6-15 minutes. And the E ends right at your destination

If you are transit savvy, the A train is just fine; if you like to follow easy instructions and hate trying to figure things out (like my whole family), the E train is better.

Here is the Airtrain info and a subway map:

Subway Map: http://web.mta.info/nyct/maps/subwaymap.pdf

Subway Guide (a bit of overkill for most people) http://web.mta.info/maps/service_guide.pdf

One last bit a trivia as to why the E and A are equal for you: The trip to Jamaica takes 5 minutes longer than the trip to Howard Beach, and the Howard Beach station is outdoors, which might be more pleasant if it's not raining. They both run express, and from opposite directions (one comes from the "north", one from the "south" and they take the exact same amount of time to get to West 4th Street Station. But because the E train runs more often, most people like that one. And for you, it stops exactly at your destination.
