NYC marathon

Just realised that we'll be leaving our booked hotel - the Marmara Manhattan on east 94th street - to head to JFK airport on Marathon Sunday. Will the marathon route affect a taxi journey? How much earlier will we need to leave to allow for possible delays en route? Flight departs at 20.40.

The route should be clear by the time you leave.

After the last wave departs which based on last year was 10:50, the sweep bus for the marathon moves at 15 min per mile pace. Shortly after that, the streets reopen to traffic (so any time FROM about 17:30 on Manhattan).

Street Closures will be posted on the marathon site, closer to race day, http://www.tcsnycmarathon.org/race-day/course

Considering your flight leaves at 20:40 and you would need to allow min 2 hours check in for domestic and 3 hours for international check in, you will get caught in any fifth and first avenue closures, more than likely.

I ran this race last year and am volunteering this year, there are so many people around. I would speak with your transfer/shuttle company and if you were going to use a taxi, don't, book a car as chances of getting a taxi at that hour will be slim due to runners often getting cabs back to hotels etc.

Hope this helps,

Have an amazing trip. And please cheer the runners on at the marathon :)
