A little back history. I live in Orange County, NY up by West Point. I've been to Vegas several times where I have met up with Benny and her daughter. Benny lives out in Elk County. Since we live 5 hours apart a trip to the casino to catch up is just what the doctor ordered. Last month we arranged to meet at Mohegian Sun and this month's trip was to the Sands. I am a penny slot player and Benny is also a low roller.
Benny was driving in with her SIL Win and I was making the trip solo. I left about 8:30 after stopping for gas and coffee. Traffic on NYS thruway and Rt 287 in Jersey was pretty good, as I had missed most of the rush hour. The closer I got to PA, the heavier the traffic got. When I reached the toll booth at 78, well traffic stopped. Gee was I out for the day or heading to work...lol Made it through the toll in about 15 minutes.
Arrived at Sands at about 10:45. Normally, I valer my car, but I had read here about the ease of the self-parking garage, so I thought I'd try it. No problem on the 3rd floor, 5 spots from the elevator door and low and behold, it's Benny's car parked across from me.
While waiting for the elevator, looked down into the antrium of the casino. Very nice first impression.
The elevator was glass looking out, quick response and quick trip down 2 floors.
As I exited the elevator, I noticed a sign for Valet. $7.00 to valet your car. Guess, I'm used to the free valet in Vegas, but $7.00 come on now..that's a little ridicilous.
The security gentleman directed me to the player's club which was around the corner. Received my card and the $30.00 very quickly and headed to the ladies room. All those waters and coffee made a pit stop necessary. Ladies room was clean and a good size. Quick note, they do not supply bungee cords for your new card, so be sure to bring one with you with the card you are showing for your free play.
As I was heading back to attempt to find Benny, the line at the players club was over 0 people. Guess I hit it just right.
Within the first 3-4 minutes I heard Benny calling my name and hugs were exchanged. We sat and caught up for a few and then off to find Win. She was sitting with 3 or 4 TITOs already from her free play.
Oh boy, this looked to be a good day! We roamed around looking to get the lay out of the casino and to also attempt to find Glenda. I had to have my WOZ fix. Found Mx Glenda all the way in the far left corner of the smoking section. 4 machines that were never empty all day. I saw people cashing out large TITOs and putting smaller bills back in. These same people were still doing this 2-3 hours later...don't they get tired of winning...lol
Played some slots here and there using my free play. Benny & I seperated to catch up later. I found the Super Jackpot party. This machine is usually my cash cow when I'm running low on cash- I can usually get some money back when I am losing. Thought I'd sit for a while and see if it still loved me. My last $5.00 of free play..ok, yep the Bonus and the whack a mole sure helped. Up to over 60.00. Went a tried a few more machines bringing my TITO to 38. Idiot...was not going to spend that all the way out. Put 10 in the next machine and waved bye- bye to my money. Sill holding on to the TITO put 20 into another machine and quit at 13.00. Went lookign for Benny and came across the food court.
I went in and checked out the choices. Nathans, Sushi/chinese, Italian/Pizza, Ben & Jerry's and salads and wraps. Pizza was $2.50 a slice and hot dog meals were 6.75 There were also several sit down resturants throughout the casino.
Benny, Win & I found each other and headed to the food court. They had Pizza and I thought I'd ry the chicken fried rice. OMG, it had a horrible fishy smell and taste. I took one bite and that was it. couldn't get it down.
More to come
Quick corrections. Free play was $30.00 and the line at the player's club was not 0 long it was 20 people long. lol
During lunch Benny & I discussed how we were not overly impressed --although it seemed like Win was with her wins. We tossed aroudn the idea of going up north to the Sun. It was about an hour drive.
The route home for me from the Sands would entail a lot of NJ/NY traffic. But if we headed north to the Sun, it would be a much easier ride home going in on the Northern route straight home.
Win still had free play (along with her TITOs) so we figured we'd leave in about an hour. Played some more and not doing all that great.
I think by the time we left the Sands I was down $15.00 cash. Not bad for 4 hours of playing.
I followed Benny & Win north to the Sun. Benny was having some car troubles and we stopped once. But I'll let her tell you about that.
Arrived at the Sun, I had not brought my player's card but went to the desk and obtained a new one along with copies of the coupons that I had received in the mail. Free play, free b-day cake and $4.00 off food.
Played several machines on my $20.00 free play and was up and down, having titos and then cashing out and putting the $$ away. Playing more free play and repeating the procedure. Last tito was for 45.
It was now almost 7 and I knew I had to head back home. Benny & Win were spending the night in the area. Win was playing a 25 cent butterfly 7 machine. This machine was a cash cow for me in Vegas. Could play for hours and stay right around 60.00. So I threw 5 in as a last ditch effort. the machine still liked me.....whooo within 5 spins over 60.00..but did I cash out...nooooo..stayed with it to 25...Benny was sitting next to m...I could hear ther thinking...stop...stop..get off the machine...lol. Said my good byes..head off to pick up the b-day cake and one more quick hug goodbye and off to the car.
Sat in the car and figured out that I was leaving the casinos with 103.00 more than I left the house with. This included gas, meals, coffee and bungee cord at Sands.
The drive home was still relaxing, even though I hit storms as soon as I got to Scranton all the way to Newburgh when I got off 84.
No matter what, I was feeling wonderful and so serene after a terriffic day with great company.
Benny it was great seeing you again and thank you so much for the terrific b-day gift. I will always remember the memories that photo album brings.
Hope this TR was helpful to you who are reading it.
It was a great day.
Happy Birthday Marge!
I'm happy to hear that you had such a wonderful day. That's a shame about the chicken fried rice though. You gals are really having a nice summer with your trips aren't you? :-)
I hope Benny made it home okay with her car troubles. Are you planning any other trips in the near future?
Sue, Benny enters into her manic work time at the end of the month. So she probably will be working way tooooo many hours/days. So we kinda left it up in the air for now. She'll let me know when she gets a day off and if I can coordiante it I'll be off to meet her. Sands was 4.5 hour drive for her, and only 2.25 for me. So its a long trip for her! The M/Sun is 3.5 for her I think and 2 for me.
I may sneak off to M/Sun on one of my days off for a few hours. At least until I have a losing day...lol
Two trips and two good days.
My impression of a good day is coming home with money in my wallet. I only take what I would consider losing and not a penny more.
Marge, great TR. I have been busy since I got home at 10 Thursday night.
I no longer have the Pimpmobile as the tranny was slipping so bad to day that I traded my clunker for cash. hehehehe
I will never forget my trip at Sands. Nice casino with very wide aisles and spacious floor plan. I can't believe we both parked close together on 3.
Win had a great day with lots of medium hits. Never played her own money. My problem is...I am a quarter slot player and quarter slots were not playing well anywhere in this casino while I was there.
I dropped $40 of my own money as well as $30 free play. I guess I should have played pennies too.
I am aware that PA has to play a minimum of 85%, but don't have to report if quarters play more than 85%. It is always hard to judge a casino on a few hours of gambling, but i didn't get that happy vibe that I like to have when I play.
It is a very long drive for one casino. Not to mention the fact that I had massive problems on the Turnpike. I bought bad gas near Bloomsburg in the morning and my transmission was slipping in and out.
AT least, It was very memorable trip! I was glad Marge was following me in her car.
I will put the rest of the story on Wilkes Barre and Mount Pocono forum later.
My August Trilogy is now complete. I hope to enjoy many more of these Casino Adventures.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask here or PM me.
Note...I lost money at all 3 casinos. It seems the only place I ever come out ahead is my home casino, Seneca Allegany. I believe this is because I know those slots WELL!!!! hehehe
We left my house at 6AM Wed and returned at 10PM Thursday. I shared good times (gambling and eating) and bad times (car trouble) with 2 of my favorite people. My poor old '94 Lincoln got me home and for that I consider myself a big winner.
I hope everyone else is enjoying their summer as much as I am.
