Sands Lately?

So kinda quiet on this forum...any body been lately to Sands? We went for the second time and I have to say it was not as much a winning trip as the first! Oh well! Plus, they really need to get the hotel. We loved it the first time and thought it was great, this time we really think it needs more to do then just have slots....it really isn't a 2 day tripper

We have been going every weekend too. We get pretty good cash so we go and take advantage of it.

We also made reservations at Emeril's Chophouse for our anniversary on Monday. I will let you know how it is.

They are getting further along in the expansion. I wish I knew when the table game were coming. Anybody know?

Hi Moneywho, Our trip to Seneca was great! I love it there! We didn't win of course but we had a great time with great food. Turning Stone was good too. We went to Bingo and lost but had fun. Sands was good too just nothing to do to get away from slots. I was told they are looking at April for the hotel. So we will see.

They've got about 60% of the hotel structure wrapped...my guess is that it'll be wrapped up in the next two weeks or so. Hopefully soon...it'll be back to cold weather again before we know it! I've definitely noticed an uptick of full parking lots at nearby hotels, though.

I'm under the impression that they've yet to even wrap up the bill for the table games. They've been bickering back on forth on the licensing fees & tax percentages. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Earlier they were estimating summer 2010 by the time they got enough trained operators/inspectors, but depending on how long it takes to iron out the bill, it may be longer than that.

The table game bill is still not finalized because the Gov. wants a much higher tax rate than the legislature has proposed.

When the bill initially passed the Sands predicted that table games would come by April, and obviously that's not going to happen.

I believe the Sands said, when the tax rates are finally finished, it would take around 5-6 months or so to train, staff, and install everything.

Maybe 4th of July to Labor Day at the earliest.

I was just reading in the Bethlehem Press that at a meeting at Northampton Community College last week Sands President Robert Desalvo said that there was no timeline for the hotel being built due to the $1 million+ dollars of capital that he estimated it would take.

Also, he was hopeful that a tax rate would be agreed to by the Gov. and the legislature by hopefully no later than Thanksgiving.

The Gov. has stated that any tax rate less than 16% would be vetoed by him as he needs the revenue to generate at least $200 million for PA's 09-10 budget.

Keep in mind that the casinos in CT have no tax on their table games and NJ's rate is around 10%.

And that PA's tax on slots is about double the rate in CT and NJ.

I can finally add to this thread.

We took our first trip down to the Sands today and altho I was impressed with the looks of the casino I was not that impressed with the machines and came home BROKE.

It took us a hour to drive down from our area. We took 309 down thru Tamaqua and then got on Route 100 and finally onto 78. Once we got on to 78 it was like a quick 12 minute drive to the casino.

I got no play what so ever on anything that I played and I tried video poker , playing Deuces Wild and then tried a few other quarter machines and then on to 5 cent machines and ended up on pennies and lost on everything I played

Now, I am not a lucky gambler at all and usually never win , no matter where I play.

Pa. casinos, AC or even Vegas so was not surprised we lost here today.

We have now tried all the Pa. casinos in our area and our favorite is Mohegan Sun and that is the one that is close to us. Only a 35 to 40 minute drive.

Next favorite is Mt. Airy and what I like about that place is the rooms.

Not that crazy about the casino and if I ever stop getting free rooms I will most likely stop going to the casino.

I like Hollywood casino and even like thier machines but they are so darn cheap with their offers.

Used to get free buffet coupons and then when they switched over to giving out comps they stopped sending out coupons and are so cheap with their comp points that we stopped going there.

Have not been down there since April.

As for the Sands, will not go out of my way to go back down there unless we get good offers from them so will have to wait and see what comes in

So for right now will stick with Mohegan Sun, Mt. Airy and the Borgata down in AC.

Geri18220,

The Sands has great slot cash offers. Combine that with free drinks and some good give-aways you will be back....it's addicting(lol). Hope you gave them your email address too. We get extra cash through email offers on top of our already good slot cash.
