Good steak that does not break the bank!!

Hi,

I am a vegetarian but I am travelling with a little

group of people that would like to eat a good american steak. I would prefer a good salad - so do you know a place where we can get both? I guess,

prices at Capital Grille will be much to high for us, but I

am not sure if that is what a good steak costes..

Thanks for your help

Several new steak places have opened in the city recently, but as you say, they are all pricey. Some of the "casual dining" chain restaurants like Applebee's and Ruby Tuesday have cheaper steak cuts on their menus, but it is true that "you get what you pay for."

Good steak places are pricey though my advice would be to go for lunch, lots of places are running specials

One good deal is the $24 prix fixe lunch at Table 31 table-31.com/menus/Table31_PrixFixe_Lunch.pdf

Hallo alltogether,

thanks for your input. I guess we will be fine with

a chain restaurant have not thourght about this possibility before) - Applebees will be close to our

hotel. I checked their homepage and think, for $ 20 -

25 people will get a nice plate of food. I know it is

not the service and quality of some of the upscale

places but I am sure, that my travel group will like it.

Applebees and Chilis also have the benefit of having some options for the non-carnivores..

IMO, Applebees is terrible.

Stay away from the chain places.

This joint is decent, yet affordable:

The suggestion of Jones makes me think that many good restaurants that don't specialize in beef offer one or two steak entrees. I think it would be helpful if we offered suggestions along those lines.

Applebees is a medium quality chain restaurant (I've never had anything BAD there) and is a great place to eat cheaply. FYI they are offering some great specials at the moment, two persons can eat one appetizer and two entrees for $20. Its the recession special. There was an article in today's USA about all the special deals that are being offered by restaurants. So if budget is primary you'll find some good deals there.

Q,

I think the regulars here are reading your question in two different ways. Please clarify, are you looking for an inexpensive meal, or something that simply isn't very expensive. Philly has numerous moderately priced, good quality eateries that offer steak, but are not steakhouses. Some are at the high end of moderate, some lower. For example, Philadelphia Fish & Co. offers a steak entree, as does the Plough and the Stars. Neither comes close in cost to the least expensive steak at Capital Grille, which charges $40 for a sirloin, side dishes at additional cost.
