Dinner Places in New Oxford

Anyone have recent experience or recommendations? I'm staying in New Oxford Sep 3, and am looking for mid to up scale options for 4 people. Thanks. Jack

New Oxford doesn't have many restaurants. I haven't eaten at La Fonte, mostly because the group I was with hadn't had a good experience there; Scozzaro's Old Mill Inn was fine and gets good reviews, more mid-scale/bar atmosphere. Maybe another poster can chime in with details about the new place that re-opened in Cross Keys; I can't remember its name.

Out of New Oxford, you have lots of good choices. The Altland House is just about 10 minutes away in Abbotstown, while Sidney is a little further in East Berlin. Both of these are very nice and more on the upscale side.

In the other direction, you can drive 15 minutes and be in Gettysburg, with lots of restaurant choices and recent reviews. If you're only going to be in the area for a short time, this might be a fun little trip.

Enjoy!

New Oxford is a small town that doesn't have a huge variety of restaurants (especially of the upscale type).

Although I've never eaten there, I have friends who have said that La Fonte is very good. It has very favorable reviews on this site.

I've had a few decent meals that were catered by Scozzaro's Old Mill, but again, have not actually eaten at the restaurant. It is more of a sport's bar type place.

Inn 94 (which is about a 5 - 10 min. drive) is pretty good, and I guess might be considered mid scale.

We tried the C and D Bar and Grill (about a 5 min. drive) right after they opened, and our party of 4 all enjoyed our meals. They needed to work out some "newly opened" issues however. The name is a bit misleading. I wouldn't really consider this to be a "bar and grill," although the crowd was quite eclectic.

New Oxford is midway between Hanover and Gettysburg. Driving 10 - 20 minutes would provide you with a number of additional options.

In agreement with aster, but I wasn't thinking that far away (not actually that far, only 10 - 15 min.) The Altland House and Sidney are both pretty upscale (for this area). If you decide you want to try Sidney, be sure that you make a reservation as soon as possible. We tried to get in several times and haven't been able to (unless we wanted to eat dinner after 9:00!).

Jack, of those mentioned Sidney is top of the list, easily $100 per couple every time we go. Nice presentation, great wine list. Chef Neil does a great job. Live music on occasion, best to call ahead for sure.

The only other place I'd recommend is C&D. Excellent each time we went there.

Altland house has live music downstairs at The Underside, every Fri/Sat, I'd recommend stopping there after dinner. They are only open until 11pm though.
