Airshow this October

I am looking to book a hotel for the weekend of the Jacksonville airshow - there are a few available on the seafront and I wonder which would be the best so that we would possibly get a view from the hotel room as my husband cannot walk far.

Many thanks

Hi Jean,

If the hotel is on the ocean (and almost all of them are), and if they are in Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, or Atlantic Beach you should be fine. But check with us before you make an unchangeable reservation.

In Neptune Beach, there is the Seahorse Oceanfront Inn in which all rooms face the ocean and all have real nice balconies. This location is 1 1/2 miles from the center of air show action. The Jacksonville Beach hotels would be very close to right under the action.

Thanks for the reply - with the Seahorse Oceanfront Inn, would we be able to see the actual show from there or would it be too far from the centre of the action.

Part of the show is the landing of the Marines on the beach. From 1 1/2 miles away, you wouldn't be able to see that. And people on the beach are kept a couple blocks back from that area for safety.

At 1 1/2 miles from the center point of the show you would not get as good a view as you would if you were in one of the oceanfront Jacksonville Beach hotels. Many of the planes' turns and loops, etc., are done as low as what seems like about 200 feet and viewing them wuld be better up close. But a lot of them are done much higher in the air. If you take a room at the Seahorse, ask for one near the end, facing south so that you will be facing the show.

Something you probably haven't thought about is that there is practice for the air show on the day (if not the two days) immediately preceeding the air show. I don't know if the Marines practice landing but the planes are definitely up there flying around. It seems like they go through the complete show from start to stop on those practice days. You could take a car or taxi to the center spot of the show which would be about 6th Avenue North in North Jacksonville Beach and see the show without the mob of people that will be there on official show days.

N.B: Bring ear plugs!!!

A word about Jacksonville's beaches... Jacksonville Beach is where the younger crowd hangs out and does some hard partying. That essentially starts at Beach Blvd and goes north. There are lots of bars and restaurants. The beach that the Seahorse is on is where the older (like 35 or 40+ ) folks congregate. That is the beach where the little towns of Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach meet at the end of Atlantic Blvd. That is where the Seahorse is - right at the end of Atlantic Blvd. There are some good restaurants within a block of the Seahorse.

There is another hotel, Ocean One, across from the Seahorse, but it's rooms facing south don't have balconies.

Oceanfront hotels in Jacksonville Beach that you could consider would be Best Western Oceanfront, Quality Suites, Comfort Inn, and Courtyard by Marriott Oceanfront. They all have balconies that you can sit on facing the ocean.

There is also a Jacksonville Beach tripadvisor forum.
