Dive Bars

Hello all -- There are four of us coming in this weekend for Gators fottball (Saturday) and Bears football (Sunday) - we were wondering if we could get some suggestions for some dive bars in the area - we are staying at Jacsonville Beach but we do have a car. Jukeboxes, live music, cheap drinks and a general party atmosphere are welcomed. No clubs please.

Thanks in Advance..........

Check out the thread "Riverside-Avondale"--where I pretty much listed all the "good" bars in the area, with brief descriptions. For bars of any kind, I'd do Riverside-Avondale. If not Riverside-Avondale, I'd do downtown or the Beaches.

Pete's Bar at the beach. www.yelp.com/biz/petes-bar-neptune-beach

Wild Bills Tavern on Talleyrand & 8th St. just a mile north of the stadium. Biker barish, just so you know. Beer only.

You're staying at Jax's Beach? Just walk out the door of your hotel, turn either left or right, and take your pick of places to hang out. Sneakers has lots of big huge screens for pre game, game, and post game viewing.

Pete's Bar, that the previous poster recommended, is a venerable, long established, long cherished, historic, landmark drinking institution. It would be a 2 1/2 mile walk back to your hotel.

Don't drink and drive. Police get real serious here with people who do that.

If the smoke in Pete's Bar gets too thick, you can go outside and go a short block east on Lemon Street to the Lemon Bar. This is an outdoor bar right at the dunes with the ocean beyond. Very, very popular, and more upscale with drinkers who are better dressed, more sociable, and less serious about drinking.
