Which beach for day trip Sat. April 26th?

We will be in Jacksonville this weekend. Which is the best beach / beach location parking, etc. for our family for Sat. the 26th. Two adults, two kids. Should we just go to Jacksonville Beach, or is there a better recommendation?

How old are you and the kids? Do you like festivals with lots of music and 'action'? Or do you want a private beach? What do you want to do at the beach? Do you want to get a sun tan? Shop? Go to good/fancy restaurants? How long do you want to stay at the beach? What else would be pertinent for us to know before making recommendations?

I think Jacksonville Beach will be fine for you. Parking may be a concern if the weather is really nice. I don't know of any great tips and tricks for finding a good parking place, but Spirit may weigh in with some good advice - she's our beaches "go to" expert. A better option might be Hanna Park. Although there is an entry fee (I think it's $3 per car), there are shady spots, restrooms, good parking and the beaches are much less crowded. It's only a little further (a few miles) for you. Have fun!

I remember going to the beach with a 1 year old! Lots of gear to bring. I always preferred heading a little south of the crowded part. Around 11th Street South and down. There are streets with parking right at the dunes. If you're early enough, it's very convenient for getting out on the beach. The negative side is there aren't any bathrooms. Hanna Park is a great recommendation, but it's a bit of a hike from the parking lot and over the dunes to the beach. Here's a link with information and a PDF map of the park. coj.net/departments/parks-and-recreation/rec…

We have miles and miles of beach.

Jacksonville Beach has a multicultural, multiethnic mob every day during the warm months and especially on weekends when there is a festival. There iseems to be a festival every weekend during the warm months. Teenagers and the early 20s crowd think this is great. There are lots of busy bars and restaurants and bathing suit stores clustered near the beach from Beach Blvd to North 6th Ave in Jax Beach North.

There is a smaller mob of people at the end of Atlantic Blvd, and a much smaller commercial area.

Katherine Abbe Hanna Park off Mayport Road in Atlantic Beach is delightful and civilized in the respect that there are very few people there and no distractions by loud music or multiple parties of other people. Lots of free parking , picnic areas, and restroom facilities. No restaurants in the park. This is a big park with a lake and multiple bike trails. Over at one end of ther park there are spaces for motorhomes and campers.

There are a few restaurants on Mayport Road. Nick the Greek is a good one! It's about a mile north of Atlantic Blvd.

Whichever beach you decide to go to, you will find parking if you just look around a little. Most parking is free, but there are a couple of parking lots for which there is a charge. You may have to walk a block or two.

There is access to the beach at the end of every block in Jacksonville, Neptune, and Atlantic Beaches.

Have fun!

Jacksonville Beach is very crowded and loud. South Ponte Vedra beach (towards Vilano) is our favorite. There is plenty of parking (severl lots) across the street along A1A, the beach is calm, relaxing, and quiet - along Guana River State Park it is protected so free from crowds and houses too:)

Hanna park also has a childrens play area - and it's a beautiful park. Just remember the picnic as if you go out you have to pay another fee to go back in. Loved the sign in the main lake saying don't feed the alligators. 3$ per car after 10a.m 1$ per person between 8 and 10 a.m and if you go in early there are parking spaces near the beach but the surfers fill them up quickly.
