Clatsop Spit?

We would like to see where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. How far is it from downtown Astoria?

Can we get up close?

Yes you can get close! go to Fort Stevens State Park and go to the Observation deck area. Here you can see the mouth of the Columbia... of course dont get too close-up on the Jetties- if its a stormy day, waves are pretty high here. The mouth is so huge-

It is less than 10miles from Astoria.

Birders go to the South Jetty in Ft. Stevens because of the, well, pelagic and shore birds. There is a viewing tower, as noted. There are other parts of Ft. Stevens that provide beaches, of course, so you can be on the water. I agree with above, not a good idea to climb the jetty rocks.
