First time short stop at Astoria on a cruise

Hi everyone, will be docking in Astoria on a Wednesday in May from 7am to 3pm on a cruise ship. Any suggestion how to best spend that time? No car. Thanks in advance.

The Columbia River Maritime Museum is pretty nice. I believe it opens at 9:30.

There is a trolley but their website says they start running at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesdays from Memorial Day - Labor Day.

That's about all I know about Astoria though.

Astoria is an awesome city! :)

What do you like to do?

If you like museums the Maritime Museum is really great, you could litreally spend all your time there-but you wouldn't get to see much of the city.

Flavel House Museum is another interesting general historic museum.

There kind of a boardwalk/riverwalk along the river, so you may want to just walk along there and visit shops in the downtown area.

If you are 'up' for a hike, the Astor Column is a great place to get a view of the area. It is up at the top of the hill-probably less than 1mi. from the water? This is the 'Cathedral Tree/Column Trail'.

Here is a good website...

Thank you both. I think walking along the town sounds like fun, I might just look around the city as long as it is within walking distance or short ride from cruise dock.

If it's clear, do go up to the Astor Column. It's a marvelous view :-)

Hi, you will have a wonderful time in Astoria, it's a beautiful city on the Columbia River. We have been traveling to the area for over twenty years and have a second home in Astoria, we're lucky to have a view of the column from our doorstep, it is beautifully lit at night. A visit to the column would be nice, the views are gorgeous from the top of Coxcomb Hill.

The Maritime Museum is also informative and fun, you can tour the Lightship Columbia also which is included with your admission to the museum. The Flavel House and the Heritage House are also interesing places to visit.

If you like to spa, there is the Columbia River Day Spa, across from the Hotel Elliott which is very, very nice, I love their pedicures here. Fulio's, Silver Salmon Grille and Drina Daisy are nice places for a meal in downtown Astoria.

There is also a nice riverwalk area if you just want to walk and take in the beautiful views of the river and surrounding area. www.oldoregon.com is a website that may be helpful to you. I hope you enjoy Astoria as much as we do! :)
