prettiest drive Seattle to Astoria

Flying into Seattle and driving to Astoria for the weekend later this month -- what's the prettiest drive to and from the Seattle/Tacoma airport? Or round trip options?

"Prettiest", as they say, is in the eye of the beholder. However, here is one idea. Get from Sea-Tac to Port Townsend. I can't remember the exact route, but someone else or Google maps can help. From there take hwy 20 south to hwy 101 west/south and stay on it until you get to Aberdeen where you hook up with hwy 105 south which hooks back up with 101 in Raymond and stay on 101 to Astoria. I'm guessing that if you are going to be in Astoria for the weekend, you don't want to spend the entire day getting there. The Port Townsend route would take all day and Highway 101 south from Aberdeen is not particularly scenic IMO.

From Sea-Tac Airport, just get on I-5 south. It's really not that bad. Once you get past Fort Lewis the traffic thins out and it's a rather pleasant drive down thru Nisqually Basin, past Olympia and south thru Centralia/Chehalis. If it's a clear day you will be able to see both Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens.

When you get to Kelso, take WA State Route 4 (Exit 39) west along the Columbia River. You can continue on this road to Naselle, then take 101 to the Astoria Bridge --Or

at Cathlamet, take the Puget Island Ferry across to Westport and continue on to Astoria via Hwy 30 in Oregon. Return trip--travel on the opposite side of the river. Both roads are pretty drives along the Columbia River and up over the Coast Range.

Here is the website for the Puget Island Ferry:
