Crab & Beer Festival, accommodations help

We're thinking of going to The Chesapeake Crab & Beer Festival on August 18th. We've never been to Maryland and would be spending the night on that Saturday. What would be a good, inexpensive place to stay that is close to National Harbor? Thanks in advance for your help!

Baltimore is 40+ miles away from National Harbor, which is located...well, kind of in the middle of nowhere...not real convenient to stay in Washington DC and get there, and definitely not convenient from Baltimore.

There are hotels at National Harbor complex, they're probably not going to fall into the "inexpensive" category. Otherwise maybe consider staying in Alexandria, Va and taking the water taxi over to the complex.

I would not recommend any of the nearby hotels NOT in the National Harbor complex; it's not a pleasant area.

The address of the festival is listed as "National Harbor,137 National Plaza, National Harbor, MD 20745" on the website. They have packges at The Gaylord National Resort, but we were hoping to spend a bit less than that. There isn't anything else near there?

If you look at National Harbor on a map, you will get a better idea of what IrishFan is talking about. It is located south of Washington DC across the Potomac River from Alexandria VA.

It is a modern, mixed-use, self-contained development. There are hotels other than the Gaylord within the development.

Hotels in the area, but not in the development, are not recommended for tourists.

Alexandria VA is a good tourist destination and can be reached by water taxi from National Harbor as mentioned above.

Thanks for the help! We're actually looking at the Comfort Inn Oxon Hill now. It's only for one night. And, if things go like other beer fests we've attended.......as long as there's a bed we'll be happy!!!

If all you need is a bed to make you happy then Oxon Hill will do. Enjoy the festival.

I'd check the reviews carefully for the Oxon Hill option.

If you plan on partaking a plenty and don't want to drive, I'd reco. looking at other on site hotels though parking is very expensive or getting to old town Alexandria via the ferry (check hours and pricing).
