What to do in Savannah without a car

We will be in Savannah for 7 days, 5 of which are planned by Road Scholar and do include some of Old Town, but what to do for two days when you do not have a car. We will be on a bus line, and we do intend to go to old town using the bus, but how to fill up 2 whole days. We will be very close to Oglethorpe Mall.

I just would like to get some idea from locals so I could plan for those extra days.

Thanks

Not sure anyone actually tours the historic district in a car. Savannah is very pedestrian friendly. Several good tours (tour guided walking tours, self walking, carriage, haunted). Lots of history, architecture, restaurants, and shopping. River Street is a bit touristy for me, but worth a stroll along the river, imo. Vist The Cathedral of St. John the Babtist...beautiful and learn about all the squares Savannah has to offer. Check the fountain at Forsyth Park.

This website is a start. I would order a guide now and you'll have it in a couple of days. You can pick up a trolley tour in City Market, the Visitor's Center or River Street. Some of the trolley companies do pick up at some hotels outside of the district so you might want to call your hotel and ask does any trolley companies pick up there. Of course, you would have to take their tour which is what I would recommend anyway to get a layout of the historic disctrict. You should definitely visit St. John the Baptist Cathredral. It will be closed during mass and funerals. There's many houses to tour along with the Telfair Museum and History Museum, some SCAD art museums. This in itself would tie up 2 days. A carriage tour can be very relaxing. A walking tour is also nice especially this time of year. If you let us know more what your interested in doing, we can probably give more detailed guidance but there's plenty to keep you busy for 2 days.

There's plenty to do in the historic district, much more than two days worth. Check out Things To Do on the left for lots of possibilities. The historic distict is just a great place to hang out but first you need to explore to get an idea of what's there. Tours can be good for that.

Here's a link to a Savannah tour. And a link to the Visitor's Center for info. Take the shuttle to Tybee for the day. Good luck.

The city of Savannah will start a $3 shuttle service from the Savannah Visitor Center to Tybee starting in March. The ride will pick passengers up at 10 a.m., drop them off and then pick them up at the pier at 5 p.m.
