walking beaches near Savannah

Will I find a good "walking beach on Tybee Island? What about place to stay on the beach? Is St Simons that much further? Recommendation of place to stay there?

Tybee is the beach just a few minutes away from Savannah.

If you are considering going to St. Simons, Jekyll is much better for "walking beach"

Beach at Tybee is twice as long as Jekyll Island plus miles of railroad track converted to walking trail ( 3 miles each side. ) along the Savannah River, Highway 80, . Parking after the long bridge to Tybee or Fort Pulaski entrance. .Jekyll Island is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Savannah.

In terms of places to stay on Tybee- when are you going and what is your budget? What are your preferences for accomodations? Motels, condos, private cottages, B&B? We go often (BTW, the walking on the beach is GREAT!) and usually rent a private cottage for a week. If you absolutely have to see the water from your room, you will need to ask for suggestions here or do a general search under Tybee rentals or something. There aren't many private, small cottages with a water view but we don't care, we just walk over to the Pavilion in about a minute and there it is. There are a number of condo units for rent and I believe that some of those will have a waterview. Some are "less desirable" than others depending on how many party animals you may like next to you and/or what time of year you go. We've seen some interesting people hanging over the balconies of some, but not all, condo units that face the beach. Some look pretty nice.
