Mount St. Helens/Lodging

I am planning a day trip to Mt. St. Helens, and will spending the day before, driving along the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge. I'm trying to decide between staying in Troutdale, OR or Vancouver, WA. Any suggestions?

The only real advantage staying in Vancouver instead of Troutdale is that it puts you about 30 minutes closer to Mt. St. Helens. But the mountain is only 2--2 1/2 hours away, so make your decision based on the accomodations that you like.
