Raft trip to Lee's Ferry....All Day or Half Day?

Planning next year's vacation....would you recommend the full day or half day raft trip? I have considered the advantages (full day: no motor, slower pace...half day: cheaper) and disadvantages (full day: pricier...half day: hum of motor) and still cannot make up my mind. What else should I consider? What would you do? Thanks.

There is no noise distraction from the motor. The pace is comfortable and you will actually see more from a raft that is easier to navigate. Choose the half day.

We did the half day and the motor did not bother us at all. Our guide (Ricky, who was great) sometimes cut the motor to show us something or let us drift a bit. Half day was great for us and our 7 & 10 yr old. A full day would have been too much.

Time of year is also important to factor in. In the middle of the summer you certainly wouldn't want to be on the river for more than half a day as it's very hot, but then again I think the oar trip is only offered in shoulder season (early spring or late fall). But then again if you're traveling in March for example, it could get cold - again, not ideal conditions for being on the river for a full day excursion. But I've never found the motor to be a distraction. As others have alluded to, they sometimes shut it off and let the current carry the boat - very relaxing!

I honestly do not remember the motor noise at all. I know he used it some in the slower pools and turned it off other times, but I certainly do not remember it being a distraction at all.

I would opt for the motorized excursion--you get all the beauty and still have part of the day to do other activities.

Years ago I did a 12-day non-motorized raft trip down the Colorado. Most fab trip...but some of those rapids...Like Lava Falls..............

YOu'll probably see more if you take the motorized trip.
