Morning or afternoon slow float trip?

Would like to take the slow float on June 7, but am concerned about high temperatures and sun on the 1pm trip. Is the early morning trip better, or is it cooler on the river?

In June, Morning would be much cooler. The afternoon trip will be HOT.

Agreeing that morning will be the better choice in June. Afternoon will be warmer, but don't let it scare you away. Shadows of the canyon walls, cool breezes and the water are all cooling factors.

In July and August the afternoons bring the possibility of monsoonal storms. Again, don't let this scare you. Showers are cooling, fast moving, and have the potential to produce spectacular waterfalls from the 800 foot high cliff walls. If the forecast called for the possibility of rain, I would surely choose the afternoon tour.

You won't have to worry at all about rain in early June. It will be hot and dry.

At the time of year you're traveling the morning departure of the float trip (7 AM) is definitely the more comfortable of the two. The canyon walls tend to keep the river in shadow for the first couple of hours. When the sunlight breaks through it will warm up considerably. The daytime high is forecasted to be 93 degrees Fahrenheit on the day of your trip, which means the river will be about 10 degrees warmer. If for some reason you cannot switch to the morning trip, a good way to cool down quickly and effectively is to bring a towel and dunk it in the river water (which is a constant 48 degrees) and drape it over your shoulders. Kinda works like an evaporative cooler.

While you're in Page try to go see Antelope Canyon too. Video ->: http://youtu.be/N2ClQzs9mQU

I agree...morning would be best. We just did this trip last Saturday. It was quite chilly as we boarded the pontoon and started our trip downriver but the morning soon warmed up and was comfortable until we arrived at Lee's Ferry. Drink lots of water, also don't forget the sunscreen. Enjoy, this was an awesome time.
