How rough is the ride to Antelope Canyon?

We will be traveling around southern Utah and northern Arizona in a few weeks. We will be passing through Page and I'd love to see Antelope Canyon. However, my boyfriend had rotator cuff surgery and riding along rough roads is painful for him. Is the drive to the canyon as rough as I think it is so that we should skip it and save it for another trip when he's in better shape?

Thanks in advance

The trucks take you up a sandy wash. The vehicle naturally bumps and swerves. Alert the driver to your issues and request the front passenger seat. Buckle in and hold on.

An alternative would be to tour the lower AC instead, but that one requires descending and ascending steep ladder type stairways. You'll need both arms to hang on as you go up and down.

If your BF is still recovering from recent surgery, you might want to skip AC.

It is pretty bumpy as the truck bounces around in the wash, in and out of previously made tracks in the sand. In addition, it takes at least 15 minutes in the truck each way, if memory serves. If you are planning to return to the area, you may want to put this off until that visit.

That's pretty much what I expected. We do want to come back again - during a warmer time of year when we can enjoy some water activities. So this time we will have to pretty much just drive through Page except for a stop at Horseshoe Bend. We will have something to look forward to.

There are excellent hiking options north and west of Page off 89, if you have the time. Some require daily permits. All are best if you have full use of both arms.
