Restaurants in Brigham City...other suggestions

We will be visiting in two weeks and wanted some good local restaurant recommendations. Also suggestions on things to do with two older teens (son, age 15 and daughter, age 21).

How is the Crystal Inn for accommodations?

Hello!

There aren't really a ton of great reataurant options in Brigham City itself. But you aren't far from Ogden (to the south) and Logan (a beautiful mountain drive to the northeast). In Logan, there are also many beautiful hikes and the Utah State University campus (weather could be a factor still). The Crystal Inn should be fine. Based on the ages of your children, they might really enjoy hanging out around the campus in Logan.

Sorry I don't have more details on Brigham City itself...I am a professor with Utah State's many campuses and we have a small campus in Brigham City, but there's really not much else around there! If you have further questions on Logan or Ogden, I'm sure we can help!

Thank you so much for your quick reply. How far is Logan? We will probably spend a few nights also in Salt Lake City so we're open to any and all suggestions.

Absolutely THE restaurant for Brigham City is Maddox Ranch House. It is a little south of Brigham City on hwy 89. Recently renovated, but with all the traditional food. Don't miss it. http://www.maddoxfinefood.com/

Crystal Inn should be fine.

In the vicinity are the Crystal Hot Springs. Should be fun for an afternoon. http://www.crystalhotsprings.net/

You might also be interested in the Bear River Bird Refuge. At the moment the Tundra Swans are migrating through. There may be some still in a few weeks. http://www.fws.gov/bearriver/

There is also the Golden Spike Monument where the nation became united by railroads back in 1869. http://www.nps.gov/gosp/index.htm

And if you feel like taking a little drive across the desert you can visit the site of the premier landscape art in the nation, if not the world. The Spiral Jetty celebrated 40 years of existence recently. http://www.diaart.org/sites/main/spiraljetty

Brigham City to Logan is a 30 minute drive. As long as it's not snowing, you will absolutely love the drive through the canyon. If you do go to Logan, make time to get ice cream at the University.

As noted, don't miss Maddox. Great food. I actually even just like using their drive-in portion of the restaurant and eating old school in my car!

And in Logan I've heard good things about the Bluebird Cafe. Haven't had a chance to try it myself yet.

If you make it to Logan, other great eating spots are:

- Elements (earned a 2011 Salt Lake magazine dining award!)

- THE Caffe Ibis (very coveted, triple certified organic coffee is brewed and distributed here in Logan!)

- La Nonne (great Italian)

- Hamilton's (excellent steaks/American food)

And if you make it as far as Logan, the Logan Canyon drive (heading toward Bear Lake) is truly one of my FAVORITE drives I've done since coming to UT (and I've done a lot of them). There's a great hike to the "Wind Caves" accessed directly from the Logan Canyon Scenic Drive that is beautiful! May still be snowy, but the drive through Logan Canyon to Beaver-Bear Lake is stunning.
