Chattanooga is approx 3- 3 1/2 hours away from Gatlinburg depending on traffic.

Here's a map:

I live about 10 minutes outside of Chattanooga, TN and it takes me around 2 hours to get to Gatlinburg. It's not a bad drive at all.

Travel time really depends on where you are planning on going in Chattanooga, and what time of day you will be traveling. It usually takes us over 2 hours of interstate travel to get to Chattanooga from GB, but then you need to factor in the off interstate times too. It can take up to an hour or more just to get through Pigeon Forge at the busy times.

sissi67: If you are visiting Gatlinburg, and plan to then visit Chatt., I would suggest you plan your route. The reason for this is that there is a scenic route from GB to Chatt, and a rather unscenic route (the Interstate), to Chatt.

We, when visiting Chatt via Gatlinburg, generally take the more scenic route, which goes through Maryville, and on through Madisonville, to Sweetwater, and then back to I-75, which will eventually reach Chatt., with a slight change to I-24 and maybe I-59, depending on what part of Chatt you wish to visit.

If you are visiting Lookout Mountain, you will travel most of the above. Same for the Choo Choo in Chatt, a popular site for visitors.

Chatt. has much to see and I hope you will have a pleasant journey.

A couple of years back we left Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg to go to Chattanooga and we drove on Hwy321 to Lenoir City and got on I-75 from there.

It's a nice scenic route for some parts and is a lot quicker.

Nashville is only about 2 1/2 hours away, and Knoxville about an hour (in case you are looking for cheaper plane fares). We flew into Nashville, which was much cheaper, and the drive was easy and pleasant.

Two routes to Chattanooga:

Speedy but boring route: http://tinyurl.com/3tjen8

A little longer but more scenic route: http://tinyurl.com/3jdtjd You could stop by the Lost Sea in Sweetwater with this route.

Much longer but spectacularly scenic route: http://tinyurl.com/3kxvzo You could stop by Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest w/ this route.

If you have any Q about Chattanooga, just post a thread on the Chatt forum and I'll be right on it. Enjoy your trip!

Like FFG said, travel times can vary wildly depending on traffic conditions.

When I travel from Pigeon Forge back to Maggie Valley, it sometimes takes and hour and 45 minutes, but a couple weeks ago I made it from the Dollywood parking lot to Maggie in just over an hour. That's going out on the bypass around Sevierville and getting on I-40.
