Need your advice on Driving..

Hey Guys/Gals.

Ok WE will be comming in April 8. We will be comming from Memphis,Tn.

We have always taken interstate 40 to nashville, then to knoxville then interstate 441 into Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg etc..

I want to go another way this year!!!!And see other things.

SOO is this a good route to take: interstate 40 pass nashville, cookeville, kingston, then take exit 81 Hwy 75 to hwy 321 pass Friendville, marysville,Townsend into Gatlinburg.

Has anyone been this way.

I dont know what to expect!!!!!

Oh one of the reason why i would like to go this way is because sometimes I play the Tn lottery and it seems like they have alot of winners comming from those small towns just the other day someone in Maryville won $ 474,000.00 on Pick5.WOW Congrats to them.

Please let me know.

And Again Thank You!!!!!My TA Friends

If you mean this route: http://tinyurl.com/c2v7wq

then yes, that's the best way to go. It's not extremely scenic, though it is scenic compared to the other route. Maryville is a nice town, and you can't beat exchanging driving through the Pigeon Forge strip for Little River Road in the national park.

I go that way most of the time. It's a pretty drive. But we take exit 364 off of 40 onto 321. Hope you have a great trip!

321 has been my choice for years - much, much more relaxing and enjoyable!

If you hit the lottery at that little quick-stop in Walland, TN, for a million or so, do we get a cut?

This is the ONLY way I've ever been. Maryville is a nice town, tried to move there once. I love when I get to the first place to see the mountains. I always say this when I get the first glimpse of the mountains. "There they are, the BEAUTIFUL Smoky Mountains."

That's the only way we come now and we plan it so we can go to Cades Cove for either a breakfast or lunch picnic before going on into PF to check into a cabin. Going home, we drive through the park so we get to see both areas without having to back track if we are short on time. There's some nice places to stop for supplies in Maryville and Townsend--the Visitor Center in Townsend is in pretty setting. I hope you have a great trip--we'll be there June 5-10--going to see the synchronous fireflies on the 8th.

We always take the route you described, through Maryville, and we always buy some lottery tickets. (since we don't have one in Mississippi, only casinos where you can really damage your bank account if not careful).

Like the others, I think Maryville would be a great place to live. It's not too big and not too small, easy access to the Smokies and the National Park, but not in the middle of tourists. I've even looked at real estate and jobs there.

There's a Starbucks in Maryville on the left as you drive through, makes a great stop after being on the highway (eight hours for us), for so long. And after the sometimes hectic pace on the interstate, I always breath a sigh of relief as we approach along this route.

My father and I actually stopped by that very Starbucks last weekend. I still had my once-a-month soda from Subway, but he was in need of some anti-sleep drugs. I would try to be helpful and offer a review of the place but seeing that all such chains are practically identical...

Often times I have entertained different routes to get to Gatlinburg, but the route that always wins out is the one that gets me there the quickest so that I can enjoy the atmosphere of Gatlinburg and the Smokies.
