I've only been to Gatlinburg one time during Thanksgiving and i think we reserved the only cabin that was left. IT was awful but we waited until the last minute. It did snow while we were there although not very much. I would suggest renting a cabin not very high up if you're concerned about the snow. We rented from Jackson Mountain the last time we went to Gatlinburg. The cabin was in the Black Bear Falls community and ours was not high up although some are. We always go to a show or two while we are there. And you might want to visit Dollywood if you've never been.

We go every year at Thanksgiving for our annual vacation, usually stay a week and only once in all those years have we seen snow to amount to anything. PF is in a valley, and chances of snow there are always less than GB or out in the mountains. Most of the cabin rentalcompanies have cabins in PF and GB, so if you rent a cabin, just tell them that you want in town, or very close to town, and easy access with no steep mountain roads, and you should be fine!

Things to do at holiday time: The decorations are up for the holidays and just riding thru town looking at all the lights is fun!!! Lots of the outlet stores have holiday sales on. Dollywood is all decked out for Christmas, it is truly a winter wonderland. You should go just to see all the lights there!! Gatlinburg Convention Center usually has the Craftsman's fair there during Thanksgiving, and it is always unique and enjoyable. By the way, ALMOST all restaurants are open Thanksgiving Day. Also, we have spent many Thanksgiving days ice skating at ober Gatlinburg!!! Driving thru Cades Cove is great any time of the year, but during the winter months is one of our favorite times. It is especially pretty with snow on the ground.

Dixie Stampede has a spectacular Christmas show, with a live nativity scene that leaves goose-bumps on you!! And there is always the option of just relaxing by a roaring fireplace snuggled up with a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter night. See, the possibilities are almost endless!!!!

The only thing I will warn you about if you get a cabin (vs. a motel room) is most of them have a holiday 3, 4, or 5 night minumun rental, and Thanksgiving Day rental is usually $25 to $50 higher than other days. Maybe someone on the forum knows of a place that doesn't inflate rates just because they can for a holiday. We love going at Thanksgiving, though, so we just plan/budget accordingly for that.
