I chuckled a bit when I saw the word "nightlife" since Greensboro isn't particularly known for it (family and I moved here in March from Cincinnati)....it's more a family town but downtown on S. Elm on the weekend isn't bad. Be sure to try Natty Greene's Brewpub.

For restaurants and convenience, stay out on Wendover Avenue near I-40...Fairfield Inn is nice and $109 a night (located on Big Tree Way).

Enjoy the golf! Bryan Park, Forest Oaks south of town and Sedgefield are very popular.

Greensboro is a great place to live, lots of stuff for families but low on night life. Downtown - North Elm Street has a good amount of bars/clubs and is a nice area. There is a Downtown Marriott which is within walking distance of the bars and restaurants.

thanks for the info....should we get in the car and drive 2-3 hrs somewhere else that would be better...we like the idea of parking the vehicle at night and walking or taking a cab..and of course, reasonable price golf is also a consideration..

Raleigh and Charlotte are each about 1-2 hours away, and would offer more nightlife....however, I wouldn't attempt to drive back to G'boro after a late night of drinking and bar hopping.

I would think where you stay depends on where you plan to play golf. If you're headed to Pinehurst, Southern Pines, etc., you need to consider lodging nearer there. Greensboro area has some lovely golf courses but most are private country clubs, I think (does anyone agree/disagree with me here? - please jump in...) I'm thinking Sedgefield, Starmount, Greensboro CC, The Cardinal....do they allow guest golfers without a sponsoring member? I just don't know.

I must agree that nightlife is not "our thing" in Greensboro, but Natty Green's, recommended in an earlier post, is fun. It can get LOUD, but it's nice.

You said you were coming in March - now, again, I need to solicit correct information from sports-minded folks with more knowledge than I, but I would highly suggest you avoid the basketball tournament time, commonly known as "March Madness." I have no idea of the dates, but you would be hard pressed to find a hotel room within a 100-mile radius, which would include Charlotte and Raleigh.

Regardless, enjoy your weekend.

Well, guys, I lived in Charlotte for 25 years and recently moved back home here to Greensboro to take care of elderly parents. And - sorry, Greensboro -- if you are looking for nightlife you probably need to go to Charlotte. I know less about Raleigh but I would still venture to say that Raleigh has more nightlife than Greensboro. In Charlotte, I suggest you stay in a downtown hotel and stroll down Tryon Street. Now, I know this is the Greensboro forum so I'll leave it at that.

In the Charlotte area, look for golf courses in Rock Hill, SC (just over the border), and to the west in the hilly areas - Cramerton, etc.
