Kep at Night

Are there some nice bars and restaurants in Kep? I dont want to be stuck in my hotel every night and would prefer to visit local bars that have a nice friendly vibe, perhaps with some music. All advice welcome!

The main place to go at night is down to what is known as the Crab Market. Here there are a string of rustic restaurants and bars.

Here is a good map and the places are numbered on the left from 62 through 64.

Depends on where your hotel is located as to whether you have to get transport there and back, or walk, as we did.

Kep is a very spreadout and laid back town and things close early.

As infoaddict has mentioned the crab shacks are the main eating area.

Kep does have great little spots to eat but not sure they have the atmosphere you are after, we have not been to the Reil Bar yet (will try it in Sept) this might be what you are after but not sure they have music!

A couple of places in Kampot have music on certain nights in the high season? Expat muso's Wunderbar and Bokor Lodge?

Back to Kep, other places to try for meals are Breezers - he will also send someone to pick you up free of charge if you give them a call and they'll take you back as well. Sailing Boast Club is really nice to take in a sunset and enjoy a few drinks and a meal.

Kep is a very, very quiet town. Not much to do 'late'. Everything shut down by 9.30pm or so when we were there, even on the Saturday night of the local town fair, when every local and his dog were out.

No nightclubs to speak of (but we did hear dance music until 4.30am the night of the fair - but not from the fair.....we thought it was a Kep Lodge dance party, but they said not them... ???) http://www.keplodge.com/kepjungledance.html

You could try the $$$ailing club late'ish in the evening .The Riel bar has itunes music playing and a pool table (from memory). The owners are pretty chill and you can choose the music from their laptop if you like, but it is no nightclub by any means. If you have a few friends you can make a party anywhere :-)

Just a quick note about the Kep Jungle Dance. Our last party was in December 2010. So the music you heard until 4.30am was not us. This could have been a local wedding or so. When we do have a party, we make sure all the guests like the music and don't feel disturbed by it.

As for the nightlife in Kep. The Tucan bar at the Carb Market is a lively place direct on the water with occasional concerts and sometimes there is a DJ playing and normally closes quiet late. The Lida Guest House has a bar with some tunes and then there is the Baraka with not only great Pizzas but also tasty cocktails, also located at the Carb market.

Kep is a quiet town, so for parties you rather go to Sihanoukville or then Phnom Penh.

Enjoy your holidays in Kep!
